The Blaumann Foundation announces the winner of the 2023 Blaumann Prize
The winner of the 2023 Blaumann Prize is Emily Adlam, for her work
Is There Causation in Fundamental Physics?
Emily Adlam is a young philosopher from New Zealand, with a degree in Physics and Philosophy from the University of Oxford. She is now at the Chapman University in California.
Her paper Is There Causation in Fundamental Physics? suggests a new way to define and to think about the notion of ‘cause’. The work has relevance for topics ranging from the structure of spacetime, to the arrow of time, all the way to the temporal asymmetry of agency. It is a beautiful example of how ideas in theoretical physics can bring novel clarity to old philosophical debates about the best way to understand our knowledge about the world.
