The 2025 Blaumann Prize has been awarded to Ali Akil (Lebanon) and Qianhang Ding (China), both researchers at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Their innovative project, published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics under the title “A dark matter probe in accreting pulsar-black hole binaries,” proposes a new method for studying dark matter by observing the growth of binary black holes. By precisely measuring the rotation period within these systems, it is possible to obtain indirect information about the dark matter in the universe.
The jury praised the core idea for its originality and potential scientific impact, opening new perspectives in the understanding of the universe’s invisible components.
